giveCYCLEserve the dream

giveCYCLEserve was conceived by a rag tag group of beginning cyclists that talked, over espresso drinks many nights after our rides, about the potential of cycling and service to others in some combination. After riding in a small St. Jude benefit ride we decided that we would work toward some plan to serve others with cycling as a major component.

We identified 5 goals and began working toward them.

1. Encourage others to enjoy the same benefits we have from cycling
2. Develop a program to launch in the Spring / Summer of 2010 that would teach kids to ride, maintain, and care for bikes in a way that would encourage exercise, fitness, pride of self and equipment. The short description is you work on your bike, you ride your bike, you earn your bike.
3. Communicate bicycle safety to the community to create an environment where cycling can thrive as a sport, as recreation, as well as transportation.
4. Participate as a group in 6 to 9 benefit rides each year. Three times each year we join one and ride, three times we volunteer to support an event so others can ride, and three times we host and facilitate a ride.
5. Volunteer to help our community become more bicycle friendly.

Join our conversation today. Take a moment leave your feedback.

What do you think cycling and serving could do?
How would you marry the two?
What should giveCYCLEserve take on first?
